Isaiah 43:2-3
“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the Lord, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Saviour.”
It is one of my favourite verses in the Bible, depending on my mood. God is talking to a person who is living a life of holiness. Often God will make promises, but before you see the fruit of those promises you have to be dedicated to Him. You have to serve God and no other. God is talking to His own. People who truly trust Him and obey Him. Many people don’t see that. They want their cake and eat it. They can’t have it both ways and get away with it. They can’t expect the promises of God to be fulfilled, in their lives if they serve strange gods and not repent. You will be surprise the gods we serve. You think they are harmless distractions, but they are keeping us are away from God’s promises. We are often guilty of wanting one foot in the world and the other serving God. There is so many gods we serve. Knowledge is one that you might not expect. If you use knowledge in a way that glorifies God then it has served its purpose. If you want knowledge for power over others for example than it is not working for God’s glory. Another god that I have just woken up to in me is called ‘comfort.’ Many things don’t get done for God, because we love our comfort far too much. God’s gifts are beautiful, but we must make sure God is loved by us far more than His gifts.
We Need to Repent Every Day
Now what I have just said is very depressing, because we are all guilty of serving strange gods in one way or another. The thing is God is patient to a soul who examines his conscious daily and then genuinely repents from all things that he has committed against God. We won’t know all our sins, because of our spiritual blindness. I always ask God to forgive all my sins, the ones that I know about and the ones that I don’t know about. The way I see it, it is like having a daily bath. Repenting of our sins, is something we have to do every time we see that we are displeasing God in our actions or words. God does not have an ego problem as we do. God rejoices every time you turn to Him in repentance. Because every time you do, you are showing God it is Him that your heart truly wants to serve. We are very weak and God is not at all surprise about that. He knew you were weak before you were even born. I meditate a great deal on Jesus in Gethsemane. Jesus saw beforehand what He had to endure on the following day while He was praying in the garden. It was so horrific for Him, He sweated blood out of fear of what He needed to do to save us. Jesus explained to Gabrielle Bossis that He was like a frighten child. Despite of that He said yes to God the Father to go through the whole passion for us. Jesus didn’t die as a God. If He had done that His death would not have meant anything to The Father. He had to die as a man with all our sins upon Him. We just have to remember to be grateful to Him. What God hates the most is indifference. Unfortunately we all have been guilty of that too. Repent! Repent! It is so important. It should be done daily without fail.
